# Motorcoach Country Club ### Posts #### “Around Alone” and other Blue Water Sailing Exploits Monday February 19, 4:00 p.m. in the MCC yacht club In the pantheon of American single-handed sailing, Steve Pettengill deserves a special nook. After selling his trucking company in 1985, the lure of ocean sailing took him to Newport, Rhode Island, at the time the home port of single-handed Atlantic Ocean racing. After almost a decade of racing across the Atlantic, breaking the 130 year old record of the Clipper Ship “Flying Cloud” from New York to San Francisco, being capsized and rescued NW of Cape Horn, Steve confidently chose to sail in the ultimate test of single-handed sailing. Arguably the greatest single-handed sailing challenge of the era was a single-handed, around the world race sponsored by the British Oxygen Company called the “BOC Challenge”. As the longest single-handed sailing race it was considered the “Ultimate Challenge” in sailing. This race was held every four years and the 1994-1995 edition originated in Charleston, South Carolina. This race was open to two classes of sailboats, 50 ft. and 60 feet. Steve Pettengill signed on with the largest sailboat manufacturer in the US, Hunter Marine to challenge the 19 other sailors crazy enough to attempt this circumnavigation, Steve agreed to sail the 60 foot "Hunter’s Child" in the competition. The first leg found the boats heading to Capetown, South Africa. Steve arrived second overall in just under 41 days. The next leg was from Capetown to Sydney, Australia. The Southern Ocean was not kind to Steve and after being knocked down, suffering damage to the mast and spreaders he arrived after 28 days, finishing third in this leg. After much repair and retesting of the boats in Australia, the remaining flotilla headed for the dangerous waters of the Southern Ocean and Cape Horn. Just over 31 days later, Steve arrived in Punta Del Estes, Uruguay in second place. The final leg to Charleston again found Steve in second place in just under 28 days. This overall second place finish was the best any American single-handed sailor had ever logged at the time…total time out to sea, covering 27,000 miles alone, was just over 128 days. Steve stayed on with Hunter Marine and for many years and was responsible for improving the brand, creating an American sailboat to compete in the marketplace with other sailboat manufacturers. He was called “Doctor Destructo” for his desire to push the boats to extremes with the goal making them better. Steve has many other records and achievements on his resume…far too many to list here. Steve is coming to Motorcoach Country Club to discuss the events of his career, share stories and the lies that come with being alone, out to sea making it back to port and to do something extraordinary again. We are happy to announce that Steve will be in the MCC yacht club at 4:00 p.m. of February 19, at 4:00 to discuss this and other sailing accomplishments.   #### Ancient Lake Cahuilla Did you know that the area from Palm Springs to northern Mexico was once covered with water that created ancient Lake Cahuilla? This prehistoric lake was once about 105 miles long and 35 miles wide. It covered over 2200 sq. mi. of land and had an average depth of 229 feet. The lake likely was at its greatest extent around 40,000 years ago and water was supplied to the lake by the Colorado river…the demise of the lake occurred as sedimentation repeatedly caused the river to shift its course as it neared its delta near the Gulf of California. The lake was transformed during the last 2,000 years by its cycles of drying up and refilling periodically until it disappeared sometime after 1580. In 1905 the collapse of a levy in the Imperial valley allowed the flow of the Colorado river to fill what is known today as the “Salton Sink” creating the Salton Sea. During Lake Cahuilla’s existence the lake supported fish, birds, vegetation on the shorelines and groups of an indigenous population known as the Cahuilla tribes. These tribes of the Agua Caliente Cahuilla Indians are now a vital part of the Palm Springs area and have had success in leasing their tribal lands throughout the area. At its highest level the water depth of Lake Cahuilla was around 42 feet above sea level…compare that to Indio being about 13 feet below sea level and the Salton Sea 226 feet below sea level. With a bit of exploration you can see evidence of the high water mark and shoreline of this ancient lake. The included photo was taken near the corner of Madison and Avenue 58. You can clearly identify the whitish deposit of travertine that was created from the high concentration of calcium carbonate, the material derived from dissolved sea shells. Tufa deposits were also common on the shoreline but are no longer visible. Another interesting geological fact about the area is the existence of a string of low-lying volcano domes rising from the southern Salton Sea. These small islands are known as the “Salton Buttes” and are visible from the shore at the south end of the Salton Sea. The last volcanic activity was approximately 1800 years ago. There were many small towns and communities that grew up on the premise during the 1950’s of the Salton Sea becoming a playground for the residents of Southern California. Towns in areas formerly covered by Lake Cahuilla include, from north to south, Indio, Thermal, Mecca, Mortmar, Niland, Calipatria, Brawley, Imperial, and El Centro. Several of these towns have fallen into disrepair as the Salton Sea became too salty. A day trip around the lake can be instructive to the reality of failed dreams. This is a photo of Bombay Beach. The Salton Sea area has been determined to be a significant site for geothermal energy development. Below ground is a large geothermal reservoir with the potential to produce large amounts of electricity through the production of steam for power generation. Most recently the brine produced has been discovered to be rich in lithium making the Salton Sea a significant source for lithium mining. #### Buying an RV Lot Coachella Valley: What Class A Owners Need to Know in 2026 URL: https://www.motorcoachcountryclub.com/buying-rv-lot-coachella-valley/ #### Buying and Building at MCC Although we had owned a motorcoach for a couple of years, we didn’t go full time until May 2019 with our new Newmar Dutch Star. Our 3 grown children live in 3 different states now, so we felt this was a great way to spend time near each of them and still roam the country. While we love full-timing, it can be hard staying in each place for only a few days at a time. We had visited MCC prior to going full time, but weren’t sure ownership was the right thing for us. We arrived at MCC for a 2 week stay, March 18 2020. We knew that we would like to purchase a lot but couldn’t quite wrap our minds around spending so much money on an RV lot in Indio, CA. There are plenty of beautiful RV parks we can stay at all over the country. We rented a beautiful lot with a casita, pool and waterfalls. Everywhere we walked everyone waved and said hello, we felt very welcomed. THEN March 20th California went into COVID-19 lock down! RV parks were closing and our future reservations were canceled. Luckily MCC did not kick us out. We started seriously looking at lots. While all lots at MCC are nice, and different lots are right for different people, we learned being on the water was right for us. Every afternoon we would walk to the available lots for sale and check out the sunset. We particularly liked lot 334. It had a 9’ x 13’ casita and a nice dock with pavers.. We purchased and closed in 3 weeks. The couple we bought it from had already bought another lot at MCC, and were so kind to let us move on to the lot before we closed as our rental had expired. Thank you! A large part of our desire to be at MCC was the location. We are both from the LA area and one of our kids still lives there, so we wanted to have a place that friends and family could come visit. That in part drove our decision to build up the lot more. But what to do and how far to go? Put in a pool? Redo the landscaping? It kind of snowballed on us. We met with a few of the builders who normally work at MCC, as they know all the association rules and guidelines. This is what keeps MCC looking so fabulous. We picked our builder as we felt there was good communication between us. We left MCC and went on exploring the country on May 15. Designs were created and sent off to MCC architectural board where they were approved right away. Then off to the city where they sat for months, but once they were approved the building started. When we returned to MCC our lot was not ready, but our builder let us stay on his lot for the duration. We moved back onto our lot Dec 23 just in time for the holidays. We are so happy we did this. Whether you build or not is a very personal decision but the best decision you can make is to be at MCC, The people, the weather, the restaurant, the golf, the boating. Oh yes, we bought a boat! It is a unique and very special life, and we feel very lucky to live it. Bakersbegone. #### Chris Blackmore’s January dinner show at the Top of the Falls Restaurant was sold out and a huge success! Over the past three years members of MCC have enjoyed a wide range of Las Vegas style nightclub dinner shows at the Top of the Falls restaurant. The shows have highlighted worlds class performances by a variety of entertainers. Besides the amazing singing impersonations last season of Robbie Howard, we have been amazed by the seemingly supernatural skills of mentalists, magicians and comedians. This evening will surely provide Motorcoach Country Club with another sold out event.  The first show of this season will be on Sunday, January 14, 2024. The performance this night will be by Chris Blackmore. Chris is the consummate entertainer, a seasoned comedian and master magician known for his work at Harrah’s Resorts in Las Vegas and Reno. Chris has been a featured performer for over 2 million guests at Disney World and various TV programs. Chris will demonstrate his magic and side-splitting comedy after completion of dinner.   Chris is also a renowned performing member of the famous Hollywood Magic Castle and is (was) a regular at Warren and Annabelle’s Magic Theatre on Maui. Chris has performed in over 38 countries, in over 6,000 shows and has entertained in a variety of traveling magic shows and has been the featured act on various cruise ships. He is also renowned for his work in the corporate world as a motivational speaker for a multitude of Fortune 500 corporations and a regular speaker for the Disney Corporation on customer service. Chris actually wrote a book on customer service! Chris will leave the attendees at the Top of the Falls restaurant laughing and amazed as he combines illusion with his witty humor. He likes to say his show is a “magic show for those whom don’t like magic!" Watch your email for instructions on making reservations for dinner and table selection for this event. All table and food choices will be available only online through the Thundertix portal. Doors open at 4:30, dinner will be served at about 5:30 and the show begins around 7:00 p.m. You won’t want to miss this one! #### Community, Privacy, and Comfort in a Luxury Motorcoach Resort Luxury motorcoach resorts offer a unique lifestyle that blends privacy, ownership, and community in a setting that prioritizes elevated living. For travelers who value both independence and connection, the modern luxury motorcoach resort community model creates an experience that feels far more intentional than traditional RV parks or campgrounds. At Motorcoach Country Club, this balance is central to the guest and owner experience. With private lots, premium amenities, and a vibrant social culture, the resort demonstrates how privacy and community don’t compete—they complement one another. Private Coach Lots Provide Space and Ownership Privacy is one of the defining features of luxury motorcoach resorts. Unlike traditional RV destinations, many luxury communities offer deeded or long-term coach lots, giving owners a place that feels truly their own. These lots provide: Defined personal space Customization opportunities Landscaping and patio personalization Outdoor living space integration A sense of permanence and familiarity Motorcoach Country Club has elevated this ownership model by creating a setting where outdoor living spaces become an extension of the lifestyle, not just a functional parking area. A True Residential Feel Without Losing Mobility Luxury motorcoach resorts appeal to owners who enjoy travel but also appreciate the feel of a home base. The ability to return to a familiar lot, community, and neighborhood-style layout gives the resort a residential character that traditional RV parks rarely offer. This combination resonates strongly with motorcoach owners who split their time across multiple destinations throughout the year, benefiting from consistency, convenience, and comfort. Vibrant Community Connection While privacy matters, community is often what turns a resort into a lifestyle. Luxury motorcoach resort residents enjoy meeting neighbors who share similar interests, travel styles, and appreciation for the motorcoach lifestyle. At Motorcoach Country Club, owners connect naturally through shared interests, resort activities, and daily interactions that feel organic rather than structured. This helps foster a sense of belonging that many residents consider the highlight of their stay. The resort’s reputation as an exclusive motorcoach resort community reflects this blend of curated privacy and intentional connection. Amenities Designed for Both Interaction and Relaxation Luxury motorcoach resorts are known for amenities—but what sets the top destinations apart is how those amenities are designed and used. It’s not just about having a clubhouse or pool, but how those elements enhance everyday life. Premium amenities often include: Clubhouses and social lounges Golf and recreation spaces Waterfront settings Walking paths Dining and entertainment features Concierge-style guest services Wellness and fitness options Motorcoach Country Club’s signature amenities exemplify community-focused luxury amenities, giving residents spaces to relax, socialize, and entertain guests in an environment that feels both upscale and welcoming. Privacy When You Want It, Community When You Choose It One of the core benefits of a luxury motorcoach resort is autonomy. Residents choose when they want to engage socially and when they want a quiet retreat. This dynamic creates a lifestyle that adapts to personal preference rather than imposing a schedule. Owners can enjoy: Morning coffee with neighbors Afternoon relaxation at their private lot Evening events at the clubhouse Outdoor waterfront dining Scenic walks without crowds The resort’s layout and culture empower owners to participate at their own pace, which is key for long-term satisfaction. A Destination That Elevates Everyday Living Luxury motorcoach communities are not designed merely for overnight stays—they are designed to support a daily lifestyle that feels elevated, balanced, and enjoyable. What makes Motorcoach Country Club distinctive is that it blends: Residential comfort Resort-style amenities Scenic natural beauty High-end social environments Private ownership Concierge-style guest services The result is a destination that allows residents to enjoy high-quality living while still benefiting from the mobility and freedom associated with motorcoach travel. Why Luxury Motorcoach Resorts Continue to Grow in Demand As more motorcoach owners seek premium experiences, the demand for luxury resorts has grown nationwide. Owners want more than parking—they want lifestyle enrichment, community belonging, and curated comfort. Luxury resorts like Motorcoach Country Club meet this demand by offering a setting that feels intentionally designed for motorcoach owners, not retrofitted to accommodate them. A Lifestyle Built Around Choice Ultimately, the luxury motorcoach resort experience is built around choice. Owners choose: Where to travel When to stay How to connect How to personalize their space What amenities they want to enjoy This level of autonomy is part of what makes the community model so appealing for motorcoach owners who want flexibility without compromising comfort or quality. #### Desert Training Center and General Patton Memorial Museum Did you know? From the years 1942-1944 the area 25 miles east of Motorcoach Country Club in the Mojave Desert became the temporary home to over million service men being trained to survive the gruelling conditions to be faced for the planned invasion of North Africa (Operation Torch). General George Patton grew up in San Gabriel, CA and knew the perfect place to train for surviving the Sahara Desert was this barren area that ultimately contained eleven named camps. Given the task of turning 18,000 square miles of desert into a training facility, Patton considered the existing roadways, rail lines and the Colorado River Aqueduct as assets. These camps were located in California, Arizona and Nevada. Camp Young, near the existing General Patton Museum at Chiriaco Summit was the main administrative headquarters for the complex of camps and had the most permanent structures…the other camps had little or no permanent buildings as the goal was to prepare the troops for fighting in the worst conditions that desert warfare could provide. The area was so large that the various armies could use live ammunition in war games and never be near men from any of the other eleven camps. Air strips were built, tent cities and reservoirs for water. Several of these tent cities were laid out with streets up to three miles long. The average stay for a soldier in training was around 14 weeks. With most of the fighting over in North Africa by 1943, the focus of the camp shifted and was ultimately closed in April 1944, ending the largest simulated battle operations in the history of military maneuvers. As a side note, Palm Village, now known as Palm Desert was set up as the maintenance facility for the thousands of trucks, tanks, Jeeps and other vehicles necessary for these camps…this motor pool was located in the area of Portola and El Paseo, south of Hwy 111…now an exclusive shopping area near Palm Springs. Besides being one of the greatest Generals of all time, Patton was well known for his love of animals, especially dogs…he adopted his English Bull Terrier, “Willie” when in London in 1944. Naturally Willie had his own military issued dog tags and a collar with bells so everyone knew when he was coming. General Patton even made him “second in Command.” The General Patton Memorial Museum is a tribute to General Patton, the soldiers who trained at the Desert Training Center, and all U.S. soldiers and veterans. It is located at Chiriaco Summit off Interstate 10, 25 miles east of Indio, California and from Motorcoach Country Club. For more information visit generalpattonmuseum.com. #### Did you Know? - Borrego Springs Metal Sculptures - Day Trip Ever hear of Avery Folders? Dennis Avery of office supply fame and fortune had a vision for the three square miles of desert land he owned in and around Borrego Springs, CA. Approximately 65 miles from Motorcoach Country Club in Indio and surrounded by the largest State Park in California, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Borrego Springs is a vibrant desert community and oasis. Viewing these sculptures is a great opportunity for a day trip south along the Salton Sea and then westward in the direction of San Diego. On the journey to Borrego Springs the desert landscape is dramatic and if you go during the rainy season the desert may surprise with what is called a “desert bloom” with colorful and vibrant fields of flowers and a hint of green. Dennis Avery became aware of the metal sculpture art work produced in the studio of Ricardo Breceda…Ricardo was hired to produce and install more than 130 full size pieces of his art in the desert sands for all to enjoy. The area is known today as Galleta Meadows. You may learn more about the sculpture at http://ricardoabreceda.com/ Arguably the most impressive is a 350’ long serpent that extends from one side of the road to the other, passing beneath highway. Many other creatures from the pleo-pleistocene age can be found…including various dinosaurs, wild horses, pre-historic elephants, oversized birds, saber-toothed tigers and a variety of dioramas depicting historical characters, farm workers, desert tortoises and such. You can download a map of the locations of this art or visit the Borrego Springs visitor center as you enter the town. www.borregospringschamber.com Borrego Springs has a variety of RV parks, golf courses and is the only community in California having a “dark Sky” designation that requires the area residents to honor the dark and minimize light pollution in and around their properties. The art is easily accessed…you may drive up to most of them, others a short walk from the road. When you are ready to make this trip, be ready to be impressed and do not forget your camera (or your phone). #### Did You Know? "Forever Marilyn" Symbol of Hollywood Glamour Marilyn Monroe is one of Hollywood’s most beloved icons. Her effortless beauty, charm, and timeless appeal have left an indelible mark on pop culture. In Palm Springs, a statue of the legendary actress stands as a larger-than-life tribute to her captivating presence—immortalizing the allure of the blonde bombshell in one of the most scenic and culturally rich areas of California. The 26’ statue weighs 34,000 lbs. and glorifies one of Marilyn’s most iconic film moments. Marilyn is shown in a white dress from the 1955 film “Seven Year Itch.” While standing on a subway grate in New York City a gust of air lifts her skirt and has become one of the most recognized photos in film history. The statue was created by Seward Johnson known for trompe-l'œil painted bronze statues. He was a grandson of Robert Wood Johnson I, the co-founder of Johnson & Johnson and has many other larger than life works scattered in Museums, private collections and in public displays. He is best known for his realistic depictions of real people in life sized figures. Palm Springs was once the haven for the Hollywood film stars. The weather, stunning mountain backdrop and proximity to Los Angeles made Palm Springs the go-to destination for celebrities looking for fun and a change of scenery. Monroe was a regular in Palm Springs, particularly in the 1950s, when she was married to Joe DiMaggio of baseball fame. Although she never owned property here, she would rent the Elizabeth Taylor Estate occasionally. This statue is a reminder to all of the significance of Palm Springs to the film stars of the past. As you may already be aware the statue was recently moved from in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum to a plot in nearby Downtown Park. Before the move it was estimated that around 90,000 people a month visited the site. Remarkably, the new location is only about 100 feet from its original spot. This impressive and controversial artwork has become a must-see attraction for residents and tourists alike. The statue captures the essence of the star’s magnetic charm and allure, and serves as a testament to her lasting impact on American popular culture. Tourists come to have their photo taken beneath the statue and applaud the scale of the sculpture. Marilyn's impact on modern culture cannot be overstated. She became a sex symbol, a symbol of glamour and of the complexities of fame. Her image in Palm Springs is a celebration of her life, her career and her lasting impact on the world. #### Exploring Luxury and Leisure at the MotorCoach Country Club Introduction Imagine a place where luxury, leisure, and the open road converge – welcome to MotorCoach Country Club. We had never driven one let alone been inside of one but we selected a gently used Prevost and a friend of ours joked that we bought our 'third coach first'. This same friend told us he owned a lot at the beautiful motorcoach resort Motorcoach Country Club in Indio California and we needed to take a trip across the country from the east coast to check it out. It took us several days to get there but when we arrived we realized that this resort was like nothing we had ever seen before, with the beautiful waterway, the golf course, 3 swimming pools, a gym, a 5star restaurant, brand new pickleball courts, tennis courts and the list goes on. We were lucky enough to stay on the lot owned by one of the Prevost converter companies but after a few days we started to look around and see what other lots might be available for sale. We came into the resort only with the intention of visiting for a week and then moving on but within the week we found a blank lot we liked and we bought it. For each owner the choices can be different. There are golf course lots, water lots and privacy lots. We chose an empty privacy lot and we are extremely happy with the choice especially after we built a coach house also known as a casita next to our bus. The coach houses allow for more entertainment space. As we have learned, not only is this resort a special place but so are the friendships that you make here whether they are with other owners like ourselves or the occasional renters just passing through. #### Goss RV “Luxury Without Limits” Have you considered renting your Class A motorhome to someone during the off-season or during a time when you know you will not need it? Jacqueline was instrumental in creating the program during WWII that allowed over a thousand women aviators to ferry the Army Air Corps aircraft around the country in preparation of joining the war effort. This group ultimately became known as “Women’s Air force Service Pilots (WASPs) and these women mastered the controls of almost all military aircraft including the B-29 Super-fortress. This group of women pilots ferried these aircraft between airports, towed targets for anti-aircraft training, transported troops, weapons, cargo and even tested various new airplanes. Their service allowed for many more men to fly into combat. To honor Jacquelin’s efforts during wartime she received the Distinguished Service Medal…the second highest honor for a civilian in service to the United States. In 1941, she flew a Hudson V-bomber from Canada to Great Britain becoming the first women to pilot a military aircraft over the Atlantic Ocean. In 1953, aided by Chuck Yeager, Jacqueline became the first women to break the sound barrier. Her resume is too extensive to document in this space but it is notable that in 1962 alone, she set many inter-city and straight line distance records including becoming the first women to fly a jet across the Atlantic Ocean. At the time of her death in 1980 she had set approximately 250 speed, altitude and distance records…more than ANY other pilot, male or female. She received the Harmon Trophy (Most outstanding aviator) fifteen times and was named “pilot of the Decade” 1940-1949. If you are interested in her other accomplishments it will be easy to find them listed in any number of web-sites. Jacqueline lived with her wealthy husband Floyd Odlum in Indio near Motorcoach Country Club in what is now Indian Palms Country Club on Monroe…in fact the club house was originally their home. Throughout Jacqueline’s time in the Coachella Valley she often frequented the Thermal Airport…this small regional airport started its existence as a training facility for the Army Air Corp early in WWII and towards the end of the war was used for Naval Aviation training. To honor Jacqueline and her local roots in 2004 the airport was named after her. Many famous aviators used the airport as a result of Jacqueline’s nearby residence. Their home, The Cochran-Odlum date and citrus ranch as it was then known was also the gathering place of the who’s-who of America’s elite, including Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, the Rockefeller's, Walt Disney and Bob Hope. The first public golf course in Indio was built on the ranch and attracted stars including Bing Crosby, Jimmy Stewart, Jack Benny and Clark Gable. After her death in 1980 the ranch was sold and transformed into the current resort. Next time you are near Thermal check out this emerging pillar of an airport named after the pioneering aviatrix Jacqueline Cochran. #### Luxury RV Resort with private swimming pools and spas! Looking for the best RV resort near Palm Springs, CA? Motorcoach Country Club is like no other. MCC is a beautifully landscaped 80 acre paradise in the Coachella Valley. Besides having a five star restaurant for fine dining, this RV park has two miles of waterways for cocktail hour and sunset boat cruises. Additionally, this motorcoach resort has approximately 65 private motorhome lots with comfortable coach houses and private swimming pools. Since most of the pools are smaller than what might be built for a private home, we call them “spools”! The swimming pools on these private lots range from simple to spectacular…many have attached raised spas that provide a spectacular look and sound to the enjoyment of relaxing at the highest rated Class A RV park in the country. Water features incorporated into these pools are both popular and beautiful. These fountains of spilling water add to the soothing ambiance prevalent in the resort. Some owners use their creativity to incorporate natural gas fire displays as part of their pools. Cruising the waterways in an electric boat at dusk emphasizes the beauty of these pools as the sun falls behind the Santa Rosa Mountains to the west. Because of the spectacular views available in the resort over the golf course or the waterways, infinity edge pools have become extremely popular. These pools offer a flat water view that acts as a mirror reflecting the beautiful sky, palm trees and often the uninterrupted vision of the waterways. Ken has a long and varied record of service to others having served six years in the Marine Corps (Semper Fi!) and then 26 years in law enforcement in Montclair, CA. Save the Date: January 19, 2025 Motorcoach Country Club continues the tradition of Las Vegas style dinner shows in the newly remodeled top of the Falls restaurant. The first show of this season will be on the evening of January nineteenth. Over the past several seasons MCC’s dinner shows have featured performances by world class mentalists, magicians, comedians and impressionists. Each show has been very popular and have sold out. Each of these performances are preceded by a prix-fix dinner. The second show of this season will be on February 23,2025.  This event will feature the extraordinary mentalism and stand-up comedy skills of Gabe Abelson. Gabe’s performance at MCC several years ago astounded the participants with his uncanny ability to “read” folks minds and demonstrate his passion and abilities for psychic entertainment. Since birth, Gabe was gifted with an innate heightened sense of intuition. After being introduced to “mentalism,” Gabe has further developed skills in persuasion, body language and non-verbal communication to entertain people across the globe. Originally from New York City, Gabe has a long list of accomplishments too numerous to list here.  In addition to being a world-class mentalist, Gabe is a veteran stand-up comedian and television comedy writer and producer with five Emmy Award nominations and three Writers Guild nominations.  Gabe was the Head Monologue writer for “Late Show with David Letterman” as well as a staff writer for “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Gabe is a member of the Writers Guild of America, SAG/AFTRA and writing instructor for late-night television. Gabe has appeared in numerous television commercials, and has performed his act on HBO, CBS, MTV, TBS, VH1, A&E, Fox, Nickelodeon and in over 40 countries.   After completion of the dinner service on January 19, Gabe will wow the audience with an inexplicable evening of mind-bending entertainment with a lot of laughs! As usual, doors will open at 4:30, dinner will be served at 5:30 and the show will commence at about 7:00 p.m. Reservations will be available online through our “Thundertix” online software starting on Friday January 3 at 9:00 a.m. until the show sells out or until January 16th at 5:00 p.m. MCC members, their guests and rental guests are eligible to make reservations. All sales are final and dinner choices and table choices need to made when making reservations. The total cost for the event is $35 per person for the entertainment and $80 per dinner. You will charge the $35 to the credit card of your choice when making the reservation online and agree to pay for each prix fix dinner at the completion of the show. Look for further instructions for making reservations from MCC “Eblasts”, Facebook or Instagram accounts or the office. This show will likely sell-out. Organize your table mates, choose your dinner options and be ready to get those seats Wednesday morning! #### Motorcoach Country Club Main Dog Park MCC has recently completed the installation of new artificial grass in the two main dog parks. These past seasons saw increased use of the enclosed parks outside the main gate with the result that each of the areas for dogs became muddy, dirty and unsightly. As a result of the complaints and concerns of the members about the condition of the dog parks and after extensive research around the options to mitigate the overuse the board of directors chose to install artificial turf designed specifically for heavy use dog parks. The “K9 Grass” as it is called is specifically manufactured (in the United States) to allow drainage through the grass to the layers below. The two combined parks (one for large dogs, the other for small dogs) needed approximately 4800 square feet of turf. The installation took more than a week and the attractive results speak for themselves. The installation was done by Forever Lawn, from Lake Elsinore, CA and is warranted for three years. The turf is warranted for fifteen years. Been to Yellowstone lately? One of the environmental benefits of the product is that the final backing layer is comprised of recycled plastic bottles from Project Yellowstone…an innovative recycling partnership with the National Park. Additionally, MCC will use less water in the dog parks…the Southern Nevada Water Authority estimates that every square foot of synthetic grass saves more than 50 gallons of water a year. To complete the new look and feel of the dog parks new benches and tables have been ordered along with water stations for the “fur babies” in the park. Oh, by the way…cats are welcome as well! #### Motorcoach Country Club Online Merchandise Do you like to wear quality clothing with your favorite logos displayed? If so, MCC has recently partnered with “Tee Commerce,” an online apparel store based in Boston, Massachusetts. You may now purchase clothing and merchandise proudly displaying the MCC logo. Tee Commerce currently has a client list of over two-hundred golf clubs. They specialize in offering dozens of high-quality name brand merchandise that allows their clients to offer a wider selection of apparel than they could carry in their individual pro-shops. In past seasons MCC has offered a small selection of shirts, jackets, and hats available for people to purchase in the office. We had an area stacked with cubicles displaying these products. It proved difficult to carry enough variety and sizes to satisfy demand so it was a losing proposition. A few years ago, it was decided to end this endeavor and the apparel sales were discontinued. Coming to the rescue, Joe Demarte, an MCC board member, having had extensive experience in retail, discovered the website of Tee Commerce. From Joe’s initial contact the company was responsive and they quickly got on board to offer MCC members and guests a quick and easy way to purchase clothing, accessories, and gifts that display MCC pride in our beautiful and unique resort. So far, the results confirm that the merchandise received is of high quality and durable. To view what is available go to the MCC website, click the link here: MCC Merchandise and it will take you to our E-Commerce store front. The variety of choices is impressive with brand names you know, a variety of colors, styles and sizes…something for everyone. The shipping is free, no sales tax, and most items will be on their way to you in five to ten days. When you look up you may see an army green transport plane. This Douglass C-47, (also known as a DC-3 “Skytrain” in its commercial configuration) with its distinctive three “invasion stripes” takes between five and ten passengers on a tour that includes the Coachella Valley. The alternating black and white bands on the aircraft were placed on all allied aircraft in the WWII theater to identify them as friendly to invading forces during and after the Normandy invasion in 1944. On other days you may find a few other WWII combat aircraft flying in formation in the skies above the desert. The Palm Springs Air Museum was established in 1996 by three men with a passion for vintage aircraft and originally had two hangers but now has expanded to four. The museum boasts of having more than fifty aircraft on display with many being serviceable and capable of flying…in addition to the C-47 other aircraft available for your flying experience include a P-51 Mustang, a T-33 Thunderbird (early Jet fighter) and several more. In addition to a B-17 and B-25 bomber exhibit the museum now has on display a Lockheed Martin F-117A Nighthawk “Black Devil,” this aircraft was the first designed around stealth technology and was instrumental in the success of the Persian Gulf war. It was built by the infamous and secretive “skunk works” division of Lockheed Martin that also was responsible for the designing and building of the now retired of the 2200 mph SR-71 Blackbird. The museum’s 86,000 sq. ft. hangers are climate controlled and are well-stocked with volunteers anxious to explain the details and stories of the innumerable displays. An interesting fact noted about the origin of the museum is when the facility was first proposed to be located in the northern area of the Palm Springs Airport, the resistance to this location by some institutions had to be overcome by then Mayor of Palm Springs and former congressman Sony Bono. In the nearby Santa Rosa Mountains and even closer to Motorcoach Country Club in Indio, CA and in the golf communities of PGA West, The Tradition, SilverRock and The Quarry lives a community of endangered Big Horn Sheep (Ovis canadensis nelson). The sheep can often be observed either roaming on the nearby rocky cliffs or feasting on the green fairways and landscaping of these exclusive courses. These creatures are adept at climbing along these hills because they have split, concave hooves with spongy soles that enhance their grip. It is a remarkable sight to see them move elegantly among the rocks. During the summer these sheep can go two or three days in the heat without drinking water. In the winter they are able to survive without water for more than a month. The Bureau of Land Management considers this subspecies of the Big Horn to be “sensitive” to extinction…what we normally consider “endangered.” The population locally in 1970 was estimated to be around 1,100 animals and then fell to about 400 creatures in 2000. The estimate today is about 950. As you may guess habitat encroachment, traffic and other human caused conditions have made it more difficult for the sheep to survive. Recently a program to install fencing along the perimeter of the aforementioned resorts to help isolate the animals from human interaction was initiated. Predictably some local residents oppose the fence as unsightly. Ultimately almost ten miles of 8 foot fencing is planned. Animals are often killed by automobiles, mountain lions and the smaller lambs by Golden Eagles. The local variety of Big Horn is somewhat smaller in stature to their cousins in northern areas…a typical adult Ram (male) weighs about 150-200 lbs. and an adult Ewe (female) only about 100-125lbs. A newborn less than a year old of either sex is called a “lamb.” Curiously the size of the magnificent horns that give these sheep their name are about the same size as their northern relatives which makes the horns disproportionally large relative to body size. After only eight years of growth a pair of horns may way in excess of 30 lbs. the horns of ewes tend to be smaller and not curl. Rams can live up to 9-12 years and the Ewes 10-14 years. The diet of the local variety of Big Horns consists mostly of grasses but they turn to other food sources such as flowering plants or cacti. In 1982, Bighorn Institute (a non-profit) was created by a group of biologists and veterinarians to focus on the conservation of the world’s wild sheep with an emphasis on the local Peninsular Big Horn. They have a captive breeding program that has resulted in the release of 127 Big Horn into the wild. The Institute is located in Palm Desert and you may contact the Institute at 760-346-7334 or bighorninstitute.org. #### Renting Out Your Motorcoach Lot When You're Not Using It URL: https://www.motorcoachcountryclub.com/renting-out-your-motorcoach-lot-guide/ #### Saturday, February 24 Pickleball Courts Ribbon Cutting Event 1:00 p.m. Sponsored by Emerald Luxury Coaches The pickleball courts are alive with activity. In addition, the work may only be partially completed or it may not be done correctly. Finding a reliable service center for a coach is not only difficult but a long lead time may be necessary to get even simple maintenance performed. Not long ago, Kelly and Sherri Cabral, having recently relocated to the desert from the Hollywood area and both having a passion for traveling in their motorhome found themselves frustrated by their experience of trying to get service for their coach done honestly and at a reasonable cost. Struggling to get service for their coach, they met a mobile tech named Rolando Ramirez and found him to be the best tech that had ever worked on their coach. They immediately decided that together they could create a motorhome service center where the philosophy of the company would be to provide great service at a reasonable cost. The search for a permanent location began and as luck would have it they found the beautiful Luxtor facility in Coachella, CA had the service bays available for a new company to occupy. Taking advantage of this opportunity, True Blue RV was formed. True Blue leased the service/office/parts department from Luxtor and are now open and ready to service your RV. They have also hired one of the best service advisors in the industry and are well on their way towards the goal of providing great RV service at a local facility. The Luxtor facility that houses True Blue RV service center is located at 49751 Oates LN, Coachella, CA 92236, 760-469-9948. This group exercise class is led by fitness guru Tony Grech. Tony is a life-long fitness fanatic and he has made the fitness industry both his career and his passion. Tony was a massage therapist for 22 years and also a private fitness trainer. He currently recommends several varied therapies to improve his client’s health including being a “breath coach” and “cold therapy.” Be sure to ask Tony if either of these programs are “right” for you. Water aerobics goes by many names I.E. “aquarobics,” “aquatic fitness” and even “aquafit.” This form of low-impact, resistance exercise is done in a swimming pool and most often in a group to the constant beat of popular music. If you are near the club house when Tony has a group, you will know they are there (you can hear them) and having fun in the Southern California desert sun and fresh air. Being a trained professional Tony recommends water based exercise because it is safe and you use a variety of muscles. The water is supportive and assists with balance. Because the water offers support you can exercise vigorously with less opportunity for pain or injury. Tony explained that another important component of this therapy is that your heart rate will not spike and is recommended for people recovering from injuries, surgeries or other debilitating events. Most classes last approximately an hour starting at either 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. Check the fitness schedule from the drop-down menu on the web-site for exact times. You do not have to be a swimmer to be successful at water aerobics and this activity is encouraged for those with arthritis, obesity or other conditions. As we add opportunities to the active lifestyle encouraged and enjoyed at MCC, this is another form of exercise that allows you to meet your neighbors, have fun and improve your health. Come check it out…Tony has a way to make you feel welcome, you will not be sorry! There is no cost to participate and both members and rental guests of MCC are eligible. #### What Is a Class A Motorcoach Resort — and Is It Right for You? URL: https://www.motorcoachcountryclub.com/what-is-a-class-a-motorcoach-resort/ #### What to Know Before Buying an RV Lot Owning an RV lot is more than a real estate decision—it’s a lifestyle upgrade. For many Class A RV owners, the freedom, comfort, and stability of having a home base turns everyday travel into luxury travel. Instead of searching for seasonal reservations or navigating limited availability, lot ownership allows you to return to a place that truly feels like yours. But buying an RV lot is a significant investment, and making the right choice comes down to understanding the community, the financial responsibilities, and the amenities that shape your experience. Whether you're considering a premium luxury resort or exploring your first ownership opportunity, knowing what to look for will help you purchase confidently. For those seeking a refined ownership experience, destinations like Motorcoach Country Club stand out for their exceptional amenities, premium lots, and resort-level lifestyle. Here’s what every buyer should know before taking the exciting step toward owning an RV lot. Know the Types of RV Lots Available Not all RV lots are built the same. Before you purchase, it’s essential to understand the categories that exist within a resort community. Standard Lots These offer a spacious pad with access to the community’s shared amenities—ideal for buyers looking for a comfortable home base. Premium or Waterfront Lots These lots are positioned along lakes, waterways, scenic fairways, or other visually appealing areas. At destinations like Motorcoach Country Club, many waterfront lots include private docks and sweeping views. Customizable or Enhanced Lots Some resorts allow additions such as pergolas, casitas, outdoor kitchens, expanded patios, and personalized landscaping. These upgrades provide elevated outdoor living and can enhance future resale value. Before choosing, consider how you plan to use your lot—seasonally, full-time, as an investment rental, or as a long-term home base. Your goals should guide your selection. Understand HOA Rules, Community Standards & Regulations Every well-managed RV resort community has a set of guidelines designed to maintain the appearance, safety, and harmony of the neighborhood. Reviewing these rules before purchasing is essential. Important aspects to review: Lot modification guidelines RV age and length restrictions (many Class A communities require minimum standards) Rental rules if you plan to lease your lot Pet policies Parking and guest regulations Landscaping requirements Noise and quiet hours Seasonal or usage expectations Luxury communities such as Motorcoach Country Club maintain their upscale feel by upholding thoughtful and consistent standards. Understanding these rules upfront ensures the resort aligns with your lifestyle. Evaluate the Amenities & Resort Lifestyle Amenities should be a key deciding factor when buying an RV lot. They not only shape your day-to-day enjoyment but significantly influence long-term value. Consider amenities such as: Championship-style golf courses Resort-style pools and hot tubs Pickleball and tennis courts Fitness and wellness facilities Clubhouse dining and social venues Electric boat cruising and navigable waterways Dog parks and pet-friendly walking areas Organized events, activities, and social gatherings Motorcoach Country Club is a shining example of a resort where amenities define the experience. From its famed 18-hole golf course to stunning lakes and a sophisticated clubhouse, the resort creates a lifestyle that blends relaxation, recreation, and community. Review the Full Cost of Ownership Buying an RV lot includes more than the purchase price. Consider all ongoing and potential costs before committing. HOA Fees These typically cover landscaping, road maintenance, security, amenities, and community operations. While luxury resorts may have higher dues, the value they provide is extensive. Utilities Electricity, water, sewer, cable, and internet vary by location. Some resorts bundle certain utilities; others bill individually. Property Taxes Depending on the state and lot type, taxes can range widely. Maintenance & Upgrades If your lot has outdoor kitchens, custom patios, docks, or enhanced landscaping, consider future upkeep. Request a full breakdown from the community so you can accurately plan your investment. Consider Lot Size, Views, Orientation & Privacy The lot’s physical attributes are just as important as the community itself. When evaluating lots, pay close attention to: Sun exposure (ideal for morning shade or sunset views) Privacy landscaping or buffer zones Back-in vs. pull-in orientation Nearby roadways or pedestrian paths Proximity to amenities Potential for future enhancements Lot width and depth for slides, patios, and vehicles Many lots at Motorcoach Country Club offer remarkable outdoor living potential, from panoramic golf course views to wide-water frontage along beautifully maintained canals. These details often elevate the overall ownership experience. Explore Long-Term Investment Value An RV lot can appreciate in value, especially within well-managed luxury communities with strong reputations. When evaluating investment potential, consider: The resort’s location Historical demand and resale trends Quality of amenities HOA stability Community culture Customization or upgrade opportunities Overall market trends for motorcoach properties Properties in desirable destinations—such as the Coachella Valley, where Motorcoach Country Club is located—often attract consistent long-term interest, making them desirable investments for full-time owners and seasonal residents alike.
